How do you solve a winsock problem?
here goes:
1. Double-click the My Computer icon.
2. Double-click the Control Panel icon.
3. Double-click the Network icon.
4. Select TCP/IP in the The following network components are installed list.
5. Click the Remove button.
6. Click the OK button.
7. Click the Yes button.
8. Click the No button.
9. Double-click the My Computer icon.
10. Double-click the Control Panel icon.
11. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
12. Click on the Windows Setup tab.
13. Uncheck the box next to Communications.
14. Before you do this, you may want to highlight Communications and click the Details button. Note which items are installed. Click the OK button.
15. Click the Yes button to restart your computer.
16. After the computer restarts, click on the Start menu, then click on Run.
17. In the Open field, type regedit.
18. Click the OK button.
19. From the Registry menu, choose Export Registry File.
20. Click the down arrow on the Save in drop-down list and choose Desktop.
21. In the File name field, type backup.
22. Click the Save button.
23. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE so that its contents are shown.
24. Click the plus sign next to System so that its contents are shown.
25. Click the plus sign next to CurrentControlSet so that its contents are shown.
26. Click the plus sign next to Services so that its contents are shown.
27. Click the plus sign next to VxD so that its contents are shown.
28. Click the Winsock item.
29. From the Edit menu, choose Delete.
30. Click the Yes button.
31. Click the Winsock2 item in the window.
32. From the Edit menu, choose Delete.
33. Click the Yes button.
34. Click the minus sign next to VxD so that its contents are hidden
35. and there is now a plus sign next to VxD. Click on the Winsock item
under Services.
36. From the Edit menu, choose Delete.
37. Click the Yes button.
38. Click on the Winsock2 item.
39. From the Edit menu, choose Delete.
40. Click the Yes button.
41. Close all windows.
42. Double-click the My Computer icon.
43. Double-click the Control Panel icon.
44. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
45. Click on the Windows Setup tab.
46. Check the box next to Communications.
47. If you previously noted which items under Communications were previously installed, then you will want to highlight Communications, Click the Details button and add back in only those items that were previously installed. Click the OK button.
48. Windows will now install the components you have selected.
Note: If you are asked for your Windows CD-ROM, enter the path to the CD-ROM or the location of the .CAB files on your hard drive
49. Click the Yes button to restart your computer.
50. After the computer restarts, double-click on the My Computer icon.
51. Double-click the Control Panel icon.
52. Double-click the Network icon.
53. Verify that all of the network components necessary are installed, then try the connection again.
Note: The components necessary to successfully establish a Dial-Up Networking connection are: Client for Microsoft Networks, Dial-Up Adapter, and TCP/IP
